Rail Trail
The Otago Central Rail Trail runs for 150kms between Clyde and Dunedin passing through some spectacular scenery not seen from the highways, ranging from mountain ranges, hills and gorges, across the vast Maniototo plain, through old gold mining towns, ending amongst the fruit growing areas of Central Otago. Experience this magnificent journey by Foot, Bicycles or horse back.

Fishing
The Taieri River offers a diverse fishing experience suitable for a wide range of skill levels. It also has a variety of fish life, and is most notable the introduced brown trout.

Sutton Salt Lake
The Sutton Salt Lake is New Zealand's only inland salt lake. The lake is tucked down a little side-road at the south end of the Strath Taieri, some 80km from Dunedin and 7km south of Middlemarch. Getting there is more than half the fun in this case as it involves both a fabulous drive and an easy but spectacular walk.

Taieri Gorge Train
The Taieri Gorge Limited train is Dunedin's prestige tourist train operating from the historic Railway Station. Departing daily (except Christmas day) it takes you on a journey through the rugged and spectacular Taieri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago.
